China firm Hanyi Bio-tech has developed a technology to increase the water-solubility of cannabidiol (CBD), and aims to expand its application into a range of health food and supplement products.

Hanyi Bio-tech's core business is to develop new drugs, health food and chemical products based on CBD. It is a subsidiary of HMI Group, which focuses on the entire industrial chain investment in hemp, from breeding, planting, extraction and R&D to production and sales.

To address CBD's solubility issues, the firm uses nano-technology, which allows CBD to be dissolved within seconds in a water-based medium, maintains its stability, and results in a clear and transparent solution after dissolving.

“This product adopts CBD nano-chemical and preparation instant technology to create water-soluble CBD products with nano-level, high content, high solubility, rapid dissolution, wide application, clarity and transparency after water dissolving and other characteristics,” the firm said.

It added that the technology had attracted the attention of global food and beverage manufacturers, such as Coca-Cola, Red Bull and Nestle.

Malaysia's consultant

In other developments, HMI will also act as Malaysia's  consultant in helping the country develop industrial hemp.

Malaysian authorities, led by minister of International trade and industry Datuk Darell Leiking, had an exchange with HMI's CEO last month.

According to HMI, the firm will provide advice for Malaysia's industrial hemp legislation process. After which, the two parties would establish a hemp association and company for cultivation and extraction of hemp.

"The Malaysian government sincerely invite HMI to be the international consultant for Malaysia's industrial hemp development... Together, we will actively strive for Malaysia to become the next country which will legalise industrial hemp, allowing hemp industry to develop and prosper in the country, promote formulation and products which are CBD and hemp based in the health, daily necessities and textile sector," Datuk Darell Leiking said.
